The City of Calgary delivers programs and services that foster social inclusion and advance the well-being of residents. This work includes policy and planning, research and evaluation, neighbourhood and community development, as well as social programs.
For the Healthy Neighbourhoods Data Challenge (HNDC), the City of Calgary sourced data on Active Transportation, Food Environment, Green and Blue Spaces, and Walkability in Calgary neighbourhoods. They combined this data to develop an equity index using social determinants of public health data to understand the effect of geographical inequity at the neighbourhood level.
You can learn more about the City of Calgary’s solution by reading the following blog post, downloading this presentation from the HNDC Finalist Showcase, and viewing the HNDC infographic.
