Brave is a Vancouver-based cooperative that builds digital tools to keep people alive when they use drugs alone.
For the Opioid Data Challenge (ODC), Brave created the Brave Button – a cap-sized Internet-enabled device installed in single-room units of supportive housing to capture novel data on those who often utilize drugs alone and at home. When a Brave Button is pushed, it: activates overdose intervention (e.g. naloxone trained staff), and automatically logs the incident. A staff member later verifies and qualifies the incident in an easy to use chat flow.
You can learn more about the Brave and their innovation solution by downloading their Button Report, reading this news feature, browsing through this blog post, downloading their presentation from the ODC Finalist Showcase, and viewing the ODC infographic.
