The Healthy Populations Institute at Dalhousie University aims to improve population health and promote health equity by understanding and influencing the complex conditions that impact the health of communities.
For the Healthy Behaviour Data Challenge (HBDC), the Healthy Populations Institute was developing a national surveillance system to provide timely and reliable data about Canadian’s physical activity, sedentary activity and sleep behaviours. This data was captured from wearable sensors and smartphone technology, and was being consolidated into a real-time, geographically-resolved surveillance dashboard for public health professionals and clinicians.
